How to make better design presentations
In this article, I will be sharing one of the most powerful techniques to help you present [your designs] better. I learned this technique from movies and TV series. Take a look at the next two images.
Where does the interior in the second image belong?
The spaceship in the first image, right? This is called the Kuleshov Effect. The first shot is an anchor for the second one. The Kuleshov Effect is a mental phenomenon where the meaning of two shots shown one after another differs from the meaning of the same shots shown in isolation.
Origins
This technique was invented by Lev Kuleshov, a Soviet film theorist, in the 1910s. The Kuleshov Effect was groundbreaking at the time because it showed filmmakers how they could manipulate the audience’s emotions with editing. In filmmaking, the Kuleshov Effect basically covers a character’s reactions juxtaposed against what they are reacting to. Below is a video of Alfred Hitchcock explaining this film technique in more detail.
How to apply it in your design presentations
Show your design after showing something that will give extra meaning to your work.
